ARTIFACT: This is an Association of Licensed American Manufacturers (ALAM) badge from the 1910 New York National Car Show. Originally the Manufacturer's Mutual Association (MMA), ALAM adopted its new identity in 1903. ALAM launched a lawsuit against Ford Motor Corporation, believing Ford had no right to an automobile manufacturing license. After six years Ford was deemed to have that very right, and the rest is history. This piece was a watch fob by Whitehead & Hoag Company that had a button added for wear as a hanging badge. The eagle on the fob is perched upon an automobile tire that reads ALAM10 within its spokes.

VINTAGE: Circa 1910.

SIZE: Approximately 1-1/2" in diameter (without hanger).

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Plated brass.

ATTACHMENT: Rectangular hole (for original use as watch fob); button added to use as a badge.

MARKINGS: 5743 WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. NEWARK, N.J.

ITEM NOTES: This is from an automobile collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. ebay RAJV92 LHEX9/12 SeAJEX5/15

CONDITION: 7- (Very Fine-): The fob has some areas of light to moderate wear and tarnish.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
