ARTIFACT: This is two pair of silver spectacles made in the United States dating to circa 1825. Both pairs are fashioned from coin silver with collapsible arms, and one pair comes with a two piece period case. Each pair has double lenses, one with oval lenses, and the other with a similarly shaped lens that is abruptly cut off straight on one end. The slightly larger of the two pair has a maker's mark for Bolles & Day from Hartford, Connecticut, a silversmith that operated for a limited period around 1825.

VINTAGE: Circa 1825.

SIZE: Larger pair: approximately 1-1/8" in height and 4-9/16" in width; smaller pair: approximately 1-1/16" in height and 4-1/4" in width; case: approximately 5" in length and 1-7/16" in width and 5/8" in thickness.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Coin silver with steel pins/screws, glass, & leather-wrapped paper mache.

ATTACHMENT: None.

MARKINGS: 24 BOLLES & DAY HARTFORD on larger pair.

ITEM NOTES: This is from an American antiques collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VHEL99 LBDEX8/11 SLBIEX8/15 SLBDEX4/16 SeCAJX6/16

CONDITION: 7- (overall Very Fine-): The spectacles show minor to moderate wear overall, and very little to the remaining lenses. The case is very worn yet still functional. Each spectacle is missing one of its four lenses and the heavier, maker-marked piece is missing a small part of the loop at the end of the paddle, and would be a simple fix for a good jeweler. Overall, both are in very fine condition with handsome patina.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
