SUBJECT: This is a book titled The Story of the First Flag. It is �an account of the mission of Arthur Clifford Kimber who, in the month of May, 1917, carried to France the first American flag authorized by the United States Government�. Arthur Kimber went overseas to be part of the American Field Service and the 1st Stanford Unit, then transferred to be a pilot in the Air Service. He was killed in Action in France as a Pilot. The book was privately printed by his Mother and the Friends of France in San Francisco. and is one of about 1,000 to 2,000 copies, and still has the original dust jacket. VINTAGE: Circa 1920.
