ARTIFACT: This is a circa 1900 "Little Pinkies" celluloid advertising pin for the American Pepsin Gum Company by Whitehead & Hoag. There were several collectible designs for this pin: this one features a simian-featured "e;boot black shine"e; character.

VINTAGE: Circa 1900.

SIZE: Approximately 7/8" in diameter.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Celluloid-wrapped tin, paper backing.

ATTACHMENT: Straight pin.

MARKINGS: PEPSIN GUM CO. BUTTONS MADE BY THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. NEWARK, N.J. PATENT JULY 17 '94 APRIL 14 '96 JULY 21 1896 on backing; PAT. JULY 21 1896 (on edge).
