Wonderful circa 1910 Portsmouth Brewing Company moose head and figural bottle opener. The end that pries off the cap is a moose head and the body of the opener is shaped like a bottle, complete with an engraved bottle cap detail at the end and reads: “PORTSMOUTH BREWING COMPANY PORTSMOUTH, N.H”. The reverse shows an anchor centered within a sunburst-like embellishment and reads: “TRADEMARK”. Beginning in the 1910's and continuing through the 1930's, many of the openers had a special modification added. It was a small square hole, which opened and closed the gas-powered Prest-O-Lite valves on the covers of the auto's headlamps.
Approximately 2-7/8” length and 7/8” width.
Round hole for keyring attachment and square hole designed to open and close gas-powered Prest-o-lite valves on automobile headlights.
“G. T. & O. CO. CHICAGO” on front and “PATENTED” on reverse.
This is from an advertising collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. MCJX16 LABEX4/16
