ARTIFACT: 1940's - 1950's Loomis Armored Car Service driver's hat badge. Lee Loomis founded the company under the name Cleary Creek Commerical Company in 1905 in Portland, Oregon and soon began supplying Alaskan gold miners with daily commodities by way of dog sled in exchange for gold. His work paid off and the company continued to grow and in 1925, Lee established the Loomis Armored Car Service and produced and began operation of the first custom armored secure transportation known as "Old Number One". The center of the hat badge features a black enameled shield that reads: "LOOMIS ARMORED CAR SERVICE" and shows a scroll along the bottom that reads: "SAFETY WITH DISPATCH". The shield is set against a gilt brass, starburst-shaped badge and the reverse shows an oval plate stamped with the number: "568"

VINTAGE: Circa 1940s - 1950s.

SIZE: Approximately 2-3/16" in diameter

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Enameled, gilt brass

ATTACHMENT: Single post with screwback and stabilizer pin

CONDITION: 6 (Fine+): The badge shows moderate to heavy surface wear, spot of enamel missing, much of the gilt details remain intact.
