ARTIFACT: Cool small China Marine medal grouping of Trumpeter Paul C. Duffy who was shipboard the USS Arkansas and served in Shanghai between 1933 – 1934 where he earned the Yangtze Service Medal #'d 4388. The center of the Yangtze Service Medal's medallion depicts a ship sailing the sea in nice raised detail and reads: "YANGTZE SERVICE". Suspended from a blue ribbon with yellow and red stripes, the reverse of the medallion shows an eagle perched on an anchor and reads: "FOR SERVICE" and along the top of the medal: "UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS" – the bottom shows the number: "M. No. 4388". The other medal features a medallion that depicts a Marine in the center in wonderful raised detail, beneath him a banner reads: "SEMPER FIDELIS" and surrounding the center it reads: "UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS" and shows an anchor through the center and a chain-link embellished border. The medallion is suspended from a rifle and red ribbon with a blue strip down the center and the pinback reads: "U.S. MARINE CORPS" in embossed letters and the reverse of the medallion is engraved: "No 95862 PAUL C. DUFFY 1st ENLISTMENT 1929 – 1934 and the outer edge reads: "FIDELITY", "ZEAL", "OBEDIENCE".

VINTAGE: Circa WWII.

SIZE: Approximately Yangtze Service: 2-3/4" (total length); Medallion: 1-1/4" in diameter; Ribbon: 1-1/2" x 1-1/4"; 1st Enlistment Good Conduct Medal: 2-3/4" (total length); Medallion: 1-5/16" in diameter; Rifle: 1-9/16" x 3/16"; Ribbon/Pinback: 1-3/16" x 1-5/8".

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Brass, silk ribbon.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal pin with drop-in locking swivel catch (on both).

MARKINGS: "M. No. 4388".

CONDITION: 7 (Very Fine): The medals show minor to moderate wear and soiling, the catch on the USMC medal is stuck in place, much of the plated details remain, overall very fine condition.
