ARTIFACT: This is an extremely rare high-ranking "executive" American Protective League (APL) type III badge from the World War I era. Formed in 1917, the APL was a citizens' organization collaborating with federal officials against alleged German and other foreign sympathizers and rabble-rousers in general. The APL's tactics were not held in high esteem by A. Mitchell Palmer, the new Attorney General who took over in 1919, and the group's semi-official status was revoked. The APL dissolved after the armistice was signed. The badge is numbered C53 at its center.

VINTAGE: Circa World War I.

SIZE: Approximately 2-3/8" in height and 1-3/8" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Gold-plated brass.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical pin with drop-in locking swivel catch.

MARKINGS: C53.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a federal agency badge collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VAJJX11 LABJJX9/11 SIIJX6/13

CONDITION: 7 (Very Fine): The badge shows some small areas of light to medium wear and tarnish and shows a few small spots of oxidation.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
