ARTIFACT: This is a scarce autographed first edition hardcover copy of "Baa Baa Black Sheep" by Colonel Gregory "Pappy" Boyington, United States Marine Corps. An Idaho Native, Boyington was a wrestler and an aeronautical engineer before even entering the military. He flew with the American Volunteer Group (Flying Tigers) and became a fighter ace during World War II. Boyington earned both the Navy and Cross and Medal of Honor. He later led the USMC VMF-14 ("The Black Sheep Squadron") and became a Japanese prisoner of war for almost two years. The book, a memoir of his military days, was published in 1958 by G.P. Putnam's Sons of New York and was televised as a movie in the 1970s. This copy has an inscription to Boyington's friend, Ricky Matthews, on the title page. There are some black and white photographs on the endpapers only. Boyington passed away in 1988.

SIZE: 384 pages; approximately 8-5/8" in height and 5-3/4" in width and 1-3/8" in thickness.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Cloth-bound cover, clear plastic dust jacket, paper.

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The book has been well preserved by the dust jacket; one small spot of discoloration on first page, one minor water stain on one blank page and some corners of pages are creased.
