ARTIFACT: This is an aikuchi ("fitting mouth") dagger in a delicate lacquered mount and sheath. The dagger dates from the Edo (Samurai period), which came to a close in 1868. The aikuchi style of knife is made without a hand guard (tsuba). The handle of the dagger is lacquered, and comes in a matching lacquered mount (sheath), which has some delicate areas.

VINTAGE: Circa mid 1800s.

SIZE: Dagger: approximately 11-1/2" in length and 1-3/4" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Dagger: steel, brass, lacquered wood; sheath: lacquered wood.

ATTACHMENT: Rectangular loop on sheath.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a Japanese militaria collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VEJJX11 LABJJX3/12 SIJJX10/12

CONDITION: 7 (Very Fine): The knife has some small spots of light wear and tarnish; the sheath is overall in good condition but is becoming fragile along its lower curving edges.
