ARTIFACT: This is a circa 1890s Brooklyn, New York Exempt Fireman's Sons Association Eastern District (E.D.) badge. Modeled upon an earlier (1874) Western District Association, the Eastern District was incorporated in Spring 1883 with James T. Savage as President. The aim of the organization was to provide for ill and disabled firefighters as well as the immediate family members of deceased firemen. The badge has an elaborate "EFSA" monogram at its center.

VINTAGE: Circa 1890s.

SIZE: Approximately 2-1/4" in height and 1-9/16" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Nickel-plated brass.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical kick pin (C catch is missing).

MARKINGS: None.

CONDITION: 7- (Very Fine-): The badge has some light to medium wear; catch is missing.
