ARTIFACT: This is a barong short sword from the time of the Philippine Insurrection (circa early 1900s). The barong was used by the Moro people of the Philippines. It is a single-edged sword with a leaf-shaped blade, and usually also has a curved hilt wrapped in lacquered cord and sometimes metal rings. This sword comes in a wooden scabbard that is intricately carved near the top and lashed with cotton twill.

VINTAGE: Circa early twentieth century (Philippine Insurrection period).

SIZE: Sword: approximately 21-5/8" in length and 2-1/4" in width; blade only: 16-1/2" by 2-1/4" (at widest part); scabbard only: 21" x 4-1/4".

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Steel, brass, lacquered cord on hilt, twill lashings on wooden scabbard.

ATTACHMENT: Tie around scabbard.

MARKINGS: None.

CONDITION: 7- (Very Fine-): The sword is in very good condition with some light to medium wear to the blade; some spots of oxidation on hilt.
