ARTIFACT: Great 1940's United States Indian Service Deputy Special Officer Badge of Paul A. Shaver. Shaver was commissioned to serve the US Department of the Interior, Office of Indian Affairs on January 17th, 1945. This position was tasked with "enforcing any law or regulation for the maintenance of law and order on Indian reservations, and for the suppression of the traffic in intoxicants and narcotics among the Indians". The badge was used during his years of service in the Northwest and the center depicts a nicely detailed Chief's bust with a feathered headdress, surrounding it reads: DEPUTY SPECIAL OFFICER INDIAN SERVICE". The reverse of the badge features a nice maker's disc that reads: "ART BURNSIDE POLICE EQUIPMENT SPOKANE WASHINGTON". The badge came with Officer Shaver's credentials which are being sold separately, there is a link to the listing below.
