ARTIFACT: Beautiful Civil War Veterans' celluloid pin commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. The colorful pin depicts two soldiers shaking hands in the center, above them the Confederate and Republic flags are crossed. Along the top it reads: "75TH ANNIVERSARY 1863 - 1938" and along the bottom: "BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG". The 1938 reunion gathered approximately 25 veterans of the battle and 72 with a father, and the veterans averaged 94 years of age at the time. It was an historical day, Roosevelt gave the address, which preceded the unveiling of the Eternal Light Peace Memorial. A portion of the address given by President Roosevelt on that July 3rd became part of a newsreel included in the Westinghouse Time Capsule at the 1939 World's Fair in New York.
