ARTIFACT:
Wonderful Vietnam War 1969 dated Frag Jacket body armor marked to US Naval facility Brawdy Wales. The frag jacket features a heavy metal zipper closure in the front lined on the sides with webbing and a secondary flap closure with steel snaps. There are two breast pockets with flaps and snap closures and two strips of webbing for gear attachment. The sides are adjustable and feature a webbing, laces, and painted steel grommets.
The reverse reads: "NAVFAC BRAWDY WEAPONS 3(?) 15" and the inside shows two original tags, one reads: "SIZE MEDIUM 8470-122-1300 ARMOR BODY FRAGMENTATION PROTECTIVE VEST WITH ¾ COLLAR DSA 100-69-C-1785 MILCOM PRODUCTS INC." and the other reads: "ARMOR BODY FRAGMENTATION PROTECTIVE, WITH ¾ COLLAR. THIS ARMOR MAY SAVE YOUR LIFE! WHEN PROPERLY WORN IT WILL PROTECT VITAL AREAS AGAINST SHELL AND GRENADE FRAGMENTS WHICH CAUSE MOST COMBAT CASUALTIES." INSTRUCTIONS 1. WEAR ARMOR OVER SHIRT AND UNDER FIELD JACKET 2. ADJUST SIDE LACES TO MAKE ARMOR FIT THE BODY BUT STILL PROVIDE PROPER VENTILATION. DO NOT FIT TOO TIGHTLY 3. USE PROTECTIVE FLAPS UNDER SIDE LACES AND SLIDE FASTENER. PROTECT SIDE FASTENER BY FASTENING UP SNAP CLOSURE. 4. DO NOT DRY THE ARMOR NEAR AN OPEN FLAME.
