ARTIFACT:
This is a plaque and set of insignia from the "Manhattan Project", codename for the combined effort of the United States Army Corps of Engineers, along with Britain and Canada, to produce the first atomic bomb. The grouping includes a plaque named to Private Roger Hamm, along with three ribbon bars, an Army insignia and three patches, representing each of the Army Service Forces, the Service Award of Merit and the Manhattan Engineer District.
VINTAGE:
Circa World War II.
SIZE:
Items are of various sizes; plaque is 15-3/8" in height and 11-3/4" in width and 5/8" in depth.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Painted wood plaque; fully embroidered patches in cotton/silk thread; silk-wrapped brass bars and plated brass insignia.
ATTACHMENT:
Metal hanger with loop.
