ARTIFACT: This is a World War II breast and hat badge set for a United States Army Air Forces Military Police patrolman at Cambridge Field Station (at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology). Initially known as Cambridge Field Station, created by the USAAF just after World War II and sited next to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the facility picked up where the research in radio, radar and electronics by the wartime labs had left off. In July 1949, the Field Station became the Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratories (AFCRL). The Research Center worked in conjunction with the Bedford radar test facility at Bedford Airfield on current developments, paving the way for the SAGE (Semi-Automatic Ground Environment) Air Defense System. Both badges are numbered 4.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: Hat badge: 2-3/4" height and 2-3/4" width; breast badge: 2-9/16" height and 1-9/16" width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Nickel-plated brass with painted lettering (breast badge has enameling).

ATTACHMENT: Hat badge: single screw post with disc backing; breast badge: vertical pin with "C" catch.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a military police badge collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. MGEX93 LCCEX4/11

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The badges have some light to medium wear and spots of slight tarnish; backing on hat badge is rusty.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
