ARTIFACT: Fabulous, extremely rare circa 1937 French Colonial 2nd Company Light Camel Cavalry also known as 2ème Compagnie méhariste du Levant 2ème modèle badge, unmarked by Delande. The front shows a military automobile with a camel and cavalryman to the side. The reverse reads: "2ME COMPAGNIE LEGERE DU DESERT ATTACHE" which translates to read: 2nd Light Company of the Desert. The 2nd Co. Light Camel Cavalry was established in August of 1921 and deactivated in 1945. The Cavalry was created out of the 1920 League of Nations San Remo Conference when a French Mandate put Syria under French control and was known for a short time as the Mandate of Syria. It was during this time, three méhariste (camel cavalry) companies were organized in Syria as part of the French Army of the Levant and were tasked with policing the desert during the interwar period.

SIZE: Approximately 1-3/8" in diameter

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Stamped, silver plated brass

ATTACHMENT: Two rings with pin

MARKINGS: None.

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The badge shows minor to moderate wear, nearly all the silver details remain intact, overall handsome patina.
