ARTIFACT:
Rare WWI Ambulance Service Unit History of Section 625 from early days of the original American Field Service right through to the United States Army Ambulance Service. Famous American Ace Frank Baylies was an early member. The unit history cover reads: "HISTORY OF SECTION 625 UNITED STATES ARMY AMBULANCE SERVICE WITH THE FRENCH ARMY" and was privately printed in Mayence, Germany in 1919. This example is an excellent reading copy, sadly with a large (glue-able/repairable) tear in the front cover. Newspaper clipping included from Philadelphia paper, tells of 23 year old Harold K. Gruel and announces the presentation of the Croix de Guerre on May 2nd. Gruel, from Pennsylvania, was an ambulance driver awarded for acting "with coolness and devotion under fire in taking wounded soldiers off the battlefield during a violent artillery bombardment".

5+ (Fine-): Unit history shows moderate to heavy storage/age wear/soiling, large (glue-able/repairable) tear in the front cover, all inside pages intact.
