ARTIFACT:
Wonderful WWI German steel and enamel pocket watch by Junghans, clean and running perfectly. Engraved "For Bravery in Battle" to the 2nd Battalion 477th Infantry Regiment of 3rd Battle of Champagne and is dated 1917. Yunghans was established in 1861 initially as a parts manufacturer and quickly became known for high end craftsmanship, by 1866 Junghans was a complete watch manufacturer. After his father's death, Arthur Junghans continued to improve the family business securing no less than 300 innovations patented under his management. By 1903, Junghans was the largest watch factory in the world and is now a protected historic monument. The face of the dial is white with black numbers, the face shows a separate dial for seconds, and ornate minute and second hands. Inside the watch it reads: "JUNGHANS" in lovely script lettering and shows the numbers: "94892", the outer inside cover features the numbers: "0733370". The chain on the watch is a classic 1916 "Iron for Gold" chain with lovely rectangular-links, three are decorative. Two read: "GOLD ZUR WEHR 1916 EIBEN ZUR HER" which translates: "Gold for Military 1916 Iron for the Honor" and a double sided link that reads: "IN EISERNER ZEIT 1916" and the front of the link depicts an Imperial Eagle, standing, facing the viewer's left with wings spread adorned with a crown.

CONDITION:
9- (Excellent+): Watch shows minor to moderate wear, mostly to edges and reverse of case, nearly all the enamel details remain intact, the chain shows minor oxidation and moderate wear. Watch is clean and running perfectly!
