ARTIFACT: This is a fantastic uncut pair of World War II British Airborne Forces formation signs, or shoulder patches, as worn by the British Army 1st and 6th Airborne Divisions. Depicting Bellerophon riding Pegasus, the winged horse, the patch was designed by Edward Seago, a landscape artist. It was worn by all Airborne troops, in conjunction with the 'Airborne strip' (worn below the badge), bearing the title 'AIRBORNE' in pale blue letters on a maroon ground: there was no differentiation between 1st and 6th Airborne Divisions. The signs are in burgundy felted wool with heavy light blue silk embroidery and have an amazing sizing-encased black cotton gauze backing.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: Approximately 3-1/8" in height and 4-7/8" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Wool felt embroidered in heavy silk thread, sizing-encased cotton gauze backing.

ATTACHMENT: None.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a WWII Great Britain and Commonwealth militaria collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VAEM14 LCGEX5/14 SCAEX7/15

CONDITION: 8+ (Excellent): The signs are uncut.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
