ARTIFACT: This is a scarce pair of World War I UK named War Service and Mercantile Marine medals on ribbons. Both medals are named along the bottom edge to Oscar Sjostrom, born in 1887 at Helsingborg, Sweden. They are accompanied by corresponding post-War paperwork: a letter from the Mercantile Marine Department responding to Sjostrom's request for the war medals, along with a certificate authorizing the wear of both medals by Sjostrom with his own signature. Both medals show the bust of George V on the front in relief.

VINTAGE: Circa World War I (paperwork circa 1925).

SIZE: Both medals: approximately 4-13/16" in height and 1-7/16" in width (at widest point); certificate: approximately 5" by 7".

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Medals: bronze, silk; paper.

ATTACHMENT: Suspension ring, rectangular loop and ribbon on each medal.

MARKINGS: Oscar Sjostrom on edge of each medal; 28 April 1925 stamp on authorizing certificate.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a WWI Great Britain and Commonwealth war medals collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. ebay CON-DMB-25-14 LCDEX4/14 SeCDEX10/14
