ARTIFACT: Scarce WWII United States Army Air Forces M-5 Flak Helmet. The helmet features hinged ear covers with a leather chin strap that has come partially detached with age (see photo). The inside shows a leather sweatband and adjustable canvas webbing.

VINTAGE: Circa WWII

SIZE: Approximately Ear to ear: 10" with ear guards down and 23-1/2" with ear guards open; Front to back: 10-3/8"

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Olive drab painted steel, canvas, leather, steel buckle

ATTACHMENT: Leather chin strap (partially detached)

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a USAAF collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. ebay MFAX16 LAGEX6/16 hld/SeVBEJX9/16

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The flak helmet shows moderate wear, one side of the chin strap is now detached but still with helmet (see photo), inside shows a small area of separation on the sweatband, the leather remains soft and much of the painted details remain intact, overall very fine condition.
