ARTIFACT: This is a rare and well-used circa 1946 jacket patch for the United States Army Air Forces 58th Wing, 509th Bomb Group. Successor of the famous 509th Composite Group which dropped the two atomic bombs on Japan, the 509th Bomb Group carried out the "Operation Crossroads" atomic test at the Bikini Atoll. The patch has a mushroom cloud at its center.

VINTAGE: Circa 1946.

SIZE: Approximately 4-5/8" in height and 4-3/4" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Twill embroidered in silk/cotton threads, mesh backing.

ATTACHMENT: None.

MARKINGS: None.
