ARTIFACT: Great, late 1950's United States Air Force 3rd Aerial Port Squadron jacket patch with Disney designed Jiminy Cricket. The orange twill patch is nicely embroidered and shows Jiminy Cricket floating down, past the clouds, towards the earth with an umbrella in one hand that serves as a parachute and a load adjuster in the other. Along the top it reads: "3D AERIAL PORT SQUADRON" and the bottom: "PER ASTRA AD APSPERA" meaning "To the Stars Through Difficulty". Jiminy Cricket has been on the 3rd Aerial Port Squadron patch for over fifty years, celebrating his 50th anniversary in 2009. His first appearance was in 1959 and became the first patch approved for the APS, the original design was drawn by Airman 2nd Class Robert Dunlap.
