ARTIFACT:
Extremely rare circa 1945-46 United States Army Air Force 509th Composite Squadron patch worn upon return to Roswell AFB. Lightly used, removed from clothing. The 509th Composite Group was a United States Army Air Forces unit created during WWII and tasked with the operational deployment of nuclear weapons. It conducted the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, in August 1945. From 1941 to 1967, the facility was known as Roswell Army International Airfield during World War II and it is also known for the Roswell UFO incident, an event that supposedly happened on July 4, 1947. It is alleged that a "e;flying disk"e; crashed during a severe thunderstorm near RIAC at Corona, New Mexico.

Approximately 4-3/4" in diameter.
