ARTIFACT:
This is one of the first, very rare circa 1924 United States Air Service 25th Bomb Squadron, also known as the "e;The Headsman"e; during WWI, flight jacket patch. Initially formed as the 20th and then the 25th Aero Squadron in June 1917, this group merged with the 25th Squadron. In January 1924, the 25th Bomb Squadron evolved. The patch shows a cartoonish executioner wielding an axe with four notches that is dripping blood.

About 4-3/8"e; in width by 4-1/16"e; in height.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Painted canvas affixed to heavy leather backing.
ATTACHMENT:
To be sewn onto flight clothing.
