ARTIFACT: This is one of the first, very rare circa 1924 United States Air Service 25th Bomb Squadron, also known as the "e;The Headsman"e; during WWI, flight jacket patch. Initially formed as the 20th and then the 25th Aero Squadron in June 1917, this group merged with the 25th Squadron. In January 1924, the 25th Bomb Squadron evolved. The patch shows a cartoonish executioner wielding an axe with four notches that is dripping blood.

VINTAGE: Circa 1924.

SIZE: About 4-3/8"e; in width by 4-1/16"e; in height.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Painted canvas affixed to heavy leather backing.

ATTACHMENT: To be sewn onto flight clothing.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Army Air Forces collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. TRAJJ16 LAAGEX7/16

CONDITION: 7- (Very Fine-): Paint cracked but vibrant and intact.
