ARTIFACT: This is a circa 1945-1946 United States Army Air Forces life vest. The vest in the "Mae West" style, and has inflatable rubber bladders which give the vest its flotation capability and sex symbol shape. The interior of each side stows a canister of shark repellent and marker dye.

VINTAGE: Circa 1945-1946.

SIZE: Approximately 20"e; x 13"e;.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Cotton, leather, nylon/cotton straps, metal rings, rubber interior bladders.

ATTACHMENT: Slips over head: straps, rings, interior zippers over shoulders, interior pockets with snaps.

MARKINGS: OCT 1945 INSP. OCT 15 1946 stamp; PRESERVER, PNEUMATIC LIFE VEST TYPE B-5 SPECIFICATION NO. 3240 MFGR'S SERIAL NO. 101605 AAF STOCK NO. 8300-667760 ORDER NO. W-33-038-oo-8347 DATE OF MFR. JUL 9 1945 UNITED STATES RUBBER COMPANY PROPERTY AF, U.S. ARMY , U stamp on pocket.

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The vest has some spots of minor wear and discoloration; all equipment is intact.
