ARTIFACT: This is a beautiful, large Chinese-made early WWII silk banner for the famous 23rd Fighter Group of the US Army Air Forces, successors to the legendary American Volunteer Group, the Flying Tigers! Shown on this banner is the short-lived first design of the insignia of the 23rd, the AVG tiger leaping through a Chinese 12-pointed sun shredding a Japanese flag, now wearing Uncle Sam's hat showing that the US had gotten into the fight! This is period-made (circa late 1942) in China, and painstakingly hand stitched in silk on a large field of white silk bordered with a blue-purple silk edge. This banner would be a centerpiece in any CBI or 14th Air Force collection. Truly a wonderful and unique piece!

VINTAGE: Circa early World War II.

SIZE: Banner only: approximately 31-1/8" in height and 31-3/4" in width; frame: approximately 34-3/8" in height and 35-1/2" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Silk; archivally mounted on a linen stretcher inside a clear UV-protected Plexiglas frame.

ATTACHMENT: Framed with stretcher, brackets.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: The banner is currently archivally mounted on a linen stretcher inside a clear UV-protected Plexiglas frame. It can be shipped as framed, or rolled if the new owner would prefer to have his own framing done. This is from a United States Army Air Forces collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. CON-PJC-MAJJJJX13 LACGEJX3/13 SRET11/18
