ARTIFACT:
This is a great circa 1940s papier mache advertising figure for Old Crow brand bourbon whiskey. Dr. James C. Crow, a Scotsman by birth, is the “Crow” behind the famous name: he started distilling whiskey in Frankfort, Kentucky starting in the 1830s. The crow figure is wearing a top hat and spats and is carrying a cane tucked beneath one wing. He is also sporting a rare orange vest: red are far more commonly found.
VINTAGE:
Circa 1940s.
SIZE:
Approximately 11-1/4” in height; base is 3-1/4” by 4-1/4”.
CONSTRUCTION/MATERIALS:
Painted papier mache.

CONDITION:
7 (Very Fine): The figure has some small spots of wear, like at the end of his tail feathers; some of the original label on the base remains and nearly all of the original paint remains intact.
